Homes & Cottages Magazine – Cover + Feature Photography

Photography feature on cover and article in Homes & Cottages Magazine.

What a nice surprise to come home after a week at the cottage to find a couple of copies of Homes & Cottages, Canada’s Largest Building and Renovating Magazine, in our stack of mail. Although I have been published in the past, this is the first time since I’ve had my business and the first time I’ve landed a cover! Pretty exciting!

Last year, I was hired by Job Doctor, the contractor who had done the addition to our house to not only photograph our final results, but also two other homes they had done extensive work on, including the one featured in the magazine. The three-storey floating staircase is the focal point and a true masterpiece. If you have a chance to pick up the magazine, the story of transformation on this house is really incredible! I look forward to photographing more of their amazing work in the future. And if you live in the Ottawa area and are looking for a great contractor, I highly recommend Dan Post and the Job Doctor team. In fact, if you click on Portfolio, my home’s before, during and after shots are the first to come up. The two-storey addition is now a play room on the main floor and my photography studio on the second floor. I love having both these spaces so seamlessly added to the rest of the house. You can also check out the final results on my Facebook page’s album.

Beautiful Baby Boy – Ottawa Baby Photographer

Meet Kallen, a sweet 3-month-old baby boy. Though this was a session specifically for him, Mom and Dad were hoping to get a least one shot of him with his older brother who is 2. He would have none of it – ok, I managed to get one at the very, very end but he had his finger up his nose before melting down so I’ll let Mom and Dad decide whether they want to make that image public – like at his wedding to embarrass him when he’s older! So Kallen remained the star of the show and sure stole my heart!

Boston Bruins Themed Wedding – Ottawa Wedding Photographer

I first met SheaLynn and Marty at a wedding show in Ottawa where they asked how I felt about themed weddings. I love them! It makes their special day all the more personal and fun! Marty is a HUGE Boston Bruins fan and who would have thought they would be in the Stanley Cup Finals at the same time as their wedding. Luckily, the wedding took place on Saturday, June 11, 2011 and there was no game that night (i.e. no need for a big screen tv during the reception!) but I sure was glad they were doing so well because I wanted a happy groom! Each table had a player’s jersey instead of a number and the order for which table got in line for the buffet was determined by how well Marty thought each player had been doing. Their kissing game also involved picking a card that was face up and if it had a Bruins logo on the back, the couple kissed and if it had a Montreal Canadians logo on the back, the couple decided who the person who picked it would kiss. Needless to say, it was a fantastic day, starting off with a beautiful ceremony at Paroisse St-Joseph in Orleans with the reception taking place an GreyHawk Golf and Country Club. And the rain held off until the very end of the portrait session! A special thank you to Julie Salgado of Salgado Photography who did a great job as my second shooter.

Shea and Marty, I wish you a long and happy life together and am so glad you had even more to celebrate during your honeymoon with a Stanley Cup victory by the Bruins. Congratulations!

Little side story: We found out the SheaLynn and my husband work for the same company so although they hadn’t met before, I still feel like my husband is like Kevin Bacon and somehow linked to everyone! And of course, now they do run into each other every once in a while in their building. Small, small world!

Sunkissed Engagement Session

This wonderful couple was the lucky winner of a free engagement session that I gave as a prize at Wed By Hand, Ottawa’s Alternative Wedding Show, last February. They already have a photographer for their July wedding but we had such a great time and felt like good friends by the end of the session that they promised to share some pictures with me of their big day afterwards. I know it will be a magical day for them. They are truly perfect for each other and so in love! I wish them all the best for a long and happy life together.

Little side-story: I was chatting with my husband afterwards about how great they were and he paused and asked the name again, then looked at the images as I was transferring them onto my computer. Turns out she worked for the same company as my husband about 10 years ago and along with a mutual friend, had lunch together almost every day during a summer co-op placement. Small world! I love how people’s lives can cross again in unexpected ways…

Beautiful Belly – Ottawa Maternity Photographer

I had the great pleasure of photographing my beautiful neighbour’s belly bump a couple of weeks ago. She came alone since her husband was, like many fathers-to-be, in full home renovation mode. We chuckled about how often we saw them come home from a late evening trip to Home Depot, Rona or Lowe’s and how many other pregnant women she saw there with loving husbands in tow. It seems like in this day and age, nesting has reached a whole new level – scrubbing floors and cleaning out closets just won’t cut it. Thank goodness we have husbands who know not to argue with a pregnant woman! I remember how we (ok, I) absolutely HAD to replace the carpet in the nursery before our son was born (eco-friendly with low VOCs, of course) only to discover our cat had fleas a week later so we needed to spray the house. Ironic that this would happen in December and was the first time we ever had to deal with fleas in this cat’s 14+ years… I spent the night at a friend’s but at least it was dealt with before the arrival of our son. I’m pleased to report that my neighbours (ok, the hubby and some of his buddies) managed to renovate both bathrooms in time for the birth of their daughter last week. I can’t wait to meet her soon for her newborn session! In the meantime, enjoy these images that celebrate the physical transformation during such a special time in a woman’s life.
