The Perfect Gift for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is only a few weeks away so it’s time to start thinking about doing something special to say thank you to those amazing women in our lives. You already know I’m going to suggest photography but I recently discovered something that combines what every woman loves with photography in a beautiful way. LOVELINX Jewellery by Riverstone Designs! I have seen other photo jewellery but none made me as excited as this line. And I LOVE the idea of the Peanut Print (getting a cast of your little ones finger print). I just ordered a bracelet (saving my husband the trouble of having to find something for me this year) and I cannot wait to get it.

And because I’m so excited about this great find, I am partnering with them to allow my clients to use images from their sessions in their jewellery. All you need to do is place your order directly with Riverstone Designs and let them know that the image to be used will be coming from me. Once you’ve placed your order, send me an email and I will send the artwork directly to them.

For those who haven’t had a session with me yet or it has been a while since your last one, I am offering two days of Mini-Sessions: one in Sturgeon Point village in the City of the Kawartha Lakes on May 22 and one in Ottawa on May 29. Both will be outdoor, natural light sessions (rain days are May 23 and May 30). A Mini-Session lasts up to half an hour and you will receive one 5×7 print. An on-line gallery of up to 10 images for you to choose from and share with family and friends will be posted for 2 weeks. The cost: only $50 + tax! Contact me today to book your session, spots are limited!

If you are giving this as a gift to a special mom in your life, I will send you a beautiful Gift Certificate to give to her on Mother’s Day. If you plan on ordering a LOVELINX piece after your session, you can also get a gift certificate from them to give on Mother’s Day as well. Now that is a unique gift that will be cherished forever!

Ottawa Maternity and Newborn Photographer Meets Alex

It’s such an honour for me to be asked to capture the most amazing moments in someone’s life. Whether it’s a wedding, the wonder of pregnancy or falling completely, head-over-heals in love with a new baby, being able to freeze moments in time so when there are tougher days ahead in your marriage or battling toddler tantrums, you can look at the images and feel the same wave of love of you felt then and get strength from it – that to me is a priceless gift and the power of amazing photography.  I recently had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful mom-to-be and a few weeks later, her beautiful baby girl. Here are some images from both sessions.

Ottawa Newborn Photographer

Meet Ishaan! At four weeks he was very alert. We couldn’t get him to curl up (already liked to stretch his legs out!) or stay asleep for very long. He was much too intrigued by what was going on around him with strobes flashing and camera shutters clicking away. What I love about a newborn portrait session is the unpredictability. Already, this tiny baby has a personality so there’s no such thing a cookie cutter posing! Not only that, but capturing the expressions of new parents who have just fallen madly in love with their child leaves me speechless every time. I get choked up just thinking about it! Love, love, love new babes…

Ottawa Baby Photographer meets Oliver

I recently had the pleasure of meeting a wonderful couple with the cutest little boy named Oliver. He is a solid little fellah and at 6 months weighs only a little less than my 22 month old son! His Mom’s back may be a little sore from carrying him around but I love all those rolls and chubby cheeks! Especially since my son has always been a bit of string bean. And in honour of Hallowe’en, I thought I share an extra photo of him in the cutest little cow costume – all the way from Ireland where his aunt is living.

Wishing you all a Happy Hallowe’en!

Your Ottawa Baby Photographer,

Vanessa Dewson

Thanksgiving Family Portrait Session

My husband’s cousin had been trying to get me to take some updated photos of her 4 boys for months but with two of them now out of the house, one in Halifax and the other in Montreal, it’s not often they all get together. All the more important to capture this stage in all their lives before too much time passes! We had finally settled on Thanksgiving weekend since we would all be at our cottages (that are next to each other on the old family compound in the Kawartha Lakes). However, since the one son that lived in Halifax had to fly home earlier to attend his grandmother’s memorial, they opted not to fly him up for Thanksgiving. Without her knowledge, her sister bought him a ticket and took him up to the cottage as a surprise. Gotta love sisters and gotta love surprises!

So, in the end, we did get our session even though no one had planned outfits (they are all boys afterall!) and I didn’t have all my gear with me. So even though all was not perfect, it will be a memorable Thanksgiving with a great story and a few wonderful pictures of some of the nicest (not to mention best looking) brothers you will ever meet. I’m just glad to now be part of their extended family!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving too!

Your family photographer,

Vanessa Dewson
