I can’t think of a better way to kick off 2011 than with a maternity portrait session. New Year, new life. My first portrait session of 2011 was with a wonderful couple expecting their first child. They don’t yet know if they are having a boy or a girl and I always admire new parents who want to wait to find out. I am much too curious and impatient so I wanted to know as soon as I could. In the end because my son had a defect with his umbilical cord (only two blood vessels instead of three), I needed an ultrasound every month to monitor his growth. Luckily, he was perfectly healthy but I don’t think the fact he was a boy would have been easy to keep a secret with that many opportunities to see him before he was born.
I cannot wait to meet their little one but in the meantime, I thought I’d share some of my favourite images including one I had some fun with by including an overlay with a poem I just love that speaks to the amazing emotion we feel when we are expecting a baby.
Before you were conceived
I wanted you
Before you were born
I loved you
Before you were here an hour
I would die for you
This is the miracle of life.
